Autumn work is what decides whether your yard comes out of winter healthy or beaten up. Here is what we do for customers between October and the first hard freeze.
Keep mowing until growth stops
Grass keeps growing well into November here. Letting it go long into winter invites snow mould.
Clear the leaves properly
A thick leaf mat will smother turf over winter. Mulching light leaf fall back into the lawn is fine; heavy fall needs removing.
Autumn is the best feeding window
A late-season fertiliser application goes into root development rather than top growth, which is exactly what you want going into dormancy.
Protect hardscape and drainage
Clear debris out of drains and swales before the freeze. Water that cannot get away is what damages patios and walls.
Book snow removal early
Our snow removal schedule fills before the first real snowfall. If you want to be on it, arrange it in autumn.
